Vampire Slayer: Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Caleb
As the night fell into a deep blue, a dark figure stalked around the streets. A shimmer of a car’s flashing lights, sent the figure’s teeth glistening a deep dark red. As this figure walked slowly forward, it found the body, drained of everything, lying still, and very pale white in front of it. A low rumble built in it’s throat, and misery floated around. It lifted the body-fairly small-and ran at lightening speed ahead, to a shack built far in the woods. Inside horror erupt, and things were getting bad.
“Caleb, you’re back.” said a high pitched voice.
“Yes, I just went out to feed.” he said.
“Did you bring me anything? Or have you just brought this lifeless human with you?” the same high pitched voice asked.
“Sorry, Melina, but there hasn’t been that many places to hunt for humans today.”
“I see,” Melina quickly glanced at the dead body. “where did you find her?”
“In the forest, seeming lost from something.” he shook his head. “It was the only one I could find alone. I sort of feel bad,” he said flippantly. “she seemed young, didn’t see me coming.”
Melina and Caleb laughed in unison.
“Where are the others?”
“They’ve also left to hunt. Though I’m not sure when they’re coming back.”
“Okay.”
Caleb walked past Melina, heading for a tall room, with corners filled with human bones. Caleb dropped the body right on the floor, and snapped his fingers. Fire arose, and he put his finger on one single spot of the body. At first the flame was small and weak, but escalated once he put more force into the fire. Melina walked in licking her lips, and sighed.
“I’m starving,” she looked up at Caleb. “Do you mind if I leave to eat?”
“Of course not.” Caleb lifted his head from the dead body, and looked at Melina. “Just be careful. They can find us…. and kill us.”
She nodded seriously, and ran out of the room.
Caleb focused on the body-now in massive flames- and blew. Out of his mouth, a bright mist came, and sprinkled the body, revealing charred bones. He gathered all the bones in his arms, and carried them to another pile, tossing them lightly.
“I hope she’ll be alright,” he murmured to himself.
As some hours past, an opening of a door shocked Caleb.
“Caleb, so good you’re back.” A voice said humorously.
“Charles?” Caleb asked curiously.
“Brother,” Charles said walking forward to shake his hand.
“It’s been so long.” he said and then frowned. “How’s Mother?”
“Best as she’s ever been in fact.” he said smiling.
“Good, good.”
“So,” Charles said running to the couch. “where’s Melina?”
“She went out to hunt, though I’m not sure she’ll find anything. All these humans in groups now.”
“Yes. It seems they’re becoming more aware of things now. I’m sure he is starting to notice.”
Caleb frowned once more, then laughed.
“Oh, I’m sure she will be fine. She doesn’t have to stay too close, but I‘m sure she will be back soon.”
“But she must stay close enough brother.” Charles said seriously.
“I know. But she knows what she is doing.”
An opening and closing of a door made the atmosphere lift.
“I’m back,” Melina called from the front door.
“I should get going.” Charles said.
“But you’ve just arrived.”
“I know, I just came to make sure you were alright. Everyone has been worrying since you’ve left.”
“I see.”
Caleb and Charles hugged quickly, and Charles ran out the house.
“What was that?”
“Charles.”
“Oh.” Melina walked over with a dead body in her arms. “What was he doing here?”
“He came to make sure I was alright. He says that the family has been worrying since I left.”
“Alright.” she then bumped Caleb on the arm, with the dead body’s arm. “Do you mind?”
“No.” He rose from his seat and took the body from her hands.
“Where did you find this?”
“In the streets, wondering alone.” she scanned the body once more then she turned towards the bathroom.
Caleb walked into the same skeleton room, and set the dead body on the ground next to the fireplace. He lifted his hand, onto the dead man’s chest, and made fire come out of his fingers. This time, the body erupted into flames in a moment. Caleb leaned down next to the burning body, and put his hand into the fire. The fire grew more, and the smell of the dead body went through the whole house. After a few moments, he lifted his hand from the fire, and blew, once again, and a cool mist of water flew out. It took longer than usual for the mist of water to blow out the fire. Once the mist took over the powerful flames, a pile of ashes were revealed, with only a few bones visible.
Caleb sighed in frustration, he knew Melina needed those bones. Melinda then walked into the room glaring at Caleb.
“You know I collect those.” she chuckled and then frowned.
“Sorry Melinda, I forgot.” he laughed.
Melina started heading toward the front door.
“I’ll be back.” she said while walking away.
“Where are you going?” he said loudly.
“I’m going to get my bones back.” she called back to him.
Caleb stood up from the floor and went to Melina’s side, which was outside.
“You can’t go back out. He’ll find out.”
“I need those bones Caleb.” she turned to look at him while stopping at the beginning of a road.
“He might come look for you. You can only hunt every couple of days. You are not suppose to hunt twice a day.”
“I did not say I was going to hunt, Caleb.” she said smiling.
Caleb frowned, and then growled.
“You can’t kill innocent humans for no reason what so ever.”
“What do you think we do when we hunt?” she stared him down, and smiled one more
Caleb had his head down toward the dirty ground, and frowned.
“That’s not what I am talking about and you know it.” he spoke, almost shouting.
“It is true and you cannot deny it.” she walking away again.
“Just be careful Melina.” he said, his head still down.
“You know I won’t,” she said laughing away.
“This is not a joke, Melina!” Caleb shouted after her.
“I never said it was!” she shouted back to him.
Caleb stared in her direction for a while, then dipped his head and began walking toward the large shack. He opened the creaky door, and shut it silently behind him. He merged toward the room full of bones, and sat right in front of the fireplace. He stuck his hand on top of the last piece of wood inside, made the flames intensify. He took his hand out, and moved his whole body closer to feel the warmth.
Once the fire burnt out, he got up and left the shack again. He stood right outside of the door, and looked around, trying to sense if Melinda is around. He closed his eyes, and used his energy to find where Melina was located.
“Hey, baby.” Melina whispered in Caleb’s ear.
“Melina, get off,” he said while backing away from her.
“What’s wrong? Oh. Well, just so you know, I did not kill anyone. I could not even find anybody.” she said while running her finger up his neck.
“Melina,” he said taking her hand off of him, holding it. “Even though you did not kill anyone, I am sure you would have if you found someone.”
“That’s not true,” Melina said with a smirk.
Caleb released her hand from his grip.
“Melina, just leave me alone.” he said angrily.
“You know I can’t do that.” she said intertwining her hand with his.
Caleb held their hands up, and gripped her hand tighter.
“Ow, Caleb.” Melina said taking her hand out of his. “What did you do that for?”
“Don’t play dumb Melina.” he says glaring at her.
“Fine.”
Caleb turned, and walked away into the large shack.
“Caleb,” Melina called after him.
Caleb turned to face Melina.
“I’m sorry.” she said remorsefully. “Come on, sweetie.” Melina said tugging on Caleb’s arm.
“Fine,” he said cradling her into his arms. Caleb begin kissing her passionately, and stopped suddenly.
“What?” Melina said curiously.
“Sorry, but I’m not doing this today.”
“But Caleb,” Melina cupping his face in her hands, making him stare at her. “You know you want to.” she said smiling evilly.
Caleb dropped Melina right on the ground-a thud sounding her landing.
“Ow!” Melina said rubbing her bottom for a moment, then standing up. “What was that for?”
“Do not play dumb Melina. You know what I can do, so don’t make me try it on you.” he said snarling.
“You know what?” Melina said, leaning toward Caleb. “I’m leaving, and I’m going to kill as many humans as possible. Even if he finds me, I will stand my ground, and I will not follow your stupid, childish games!” Melina then bursted through the trees leaving Caleb standing alone.
"Melina!" Caleb shouted. Caleb was now furious. He closed his eyes, grunting in frustration, and fire surrounded him. Very few vampires were able to do what he was doing. Caleb shouted once again, and within 100 feet of him were flames. He walked very slowly-he wasn't able to move very fast when covered with fire-and went through the woods destroying everything in his path.
